In all of the experiments reported previously, energy has been
supplied to the environment uniformly across the whole grid. In this
section and the next, experiments are reported in which two
alternative energy distribution schemes were used. In this section,
the amount of energy given to each grid position varied in one
direction along a linear gradient. This was achieved by using a
non-zero value for the parameter x_delta, as described in
Section 4.5.2. Two different gradients were investigated, as
described in the following two subsections.
